Tortoises seized in Uttar Pradesh

586 live tortoises were seized and three persons arrested by police in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh on 1 December 2012.

    586 indian soft shelled turtle(lissemys punctata) which is listed in schedule 1 of wild life protection act 1972 were siezed by police and forest department...the species is of turtle and not tortoise.
