Hog deer poachers convicted in Assam

A court in Darrang district of Assam had convicted the poachers for killing a hog deer near Orang National Park in February 2012.

Hog deer included in Schedule-I and Tokay gecko on Schedule-IV

Through a gazette notification last month government had included Hog deer in the list of Schedule-I of Wildlife Protection Act, also Tokay gecko in Schedule-IV. Earlier in 2009 Horseshoe crabs were also find a place in Schedule-IV.

Tokay Gecko and sloth bear will include in Schedule-I of WPA

The last meeting of Standing Committee of National Board for Wildlife agreed to support the listing of the three species, viz., Tokay Gecko, Hog Deer and Sloth Bear, to Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act as recommended by the Animal Committee.

Hog deer killed in Orang, Assam

Eight poachers were arrested by Assam forest officials on 25th February 2012 for killing a hog deer in Orang Wildlife Sanctuary.
