Two leopards and a blue bull were electrocuted from an illegal electric fence erected in a farm at Buldhana district of Maharashtra on 31 July 2016.

Five years imprisonment for leopard poachers in Rajasthan

Two poachers caught by Sariska tiger reserve officials in July 2005 for killing leopard in 2003 at Akbarpur range were convicted by a court in Alwar, Rajasthan. Court has sentenced the two accused to five years rigorous imprisonment and Rs. 90,000 fine each.

Tiger skin and bones seized in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand

Peacock poacher acquitted in Delhi

A poacher accused for killing peacock in Delhi on January 2011 was acquitted by trial court. Court noted that there is delay of two days in producing the case property before the court since the date of commission of offence. As per Section 50 (4) of the Act, any person detained or things seized shall forthwith be taken to the Magistrate. Hence, mandatory compliance of Section 50 (4) of the Act has not been complied with. It creates doubt in the story of the prosecution.

Three years imprisonment for sloth bear killing

Illegal loggers killed two forest officers in Andhra Pradesh

Forest Beat Officer Lazarus (40) and Bade Saheb (35), assistant beat officer, were axed to death on 9 April 2016 morning after they reportedly tried to stop an auto carrying wood from the forest in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

Wildlife criminals shot dead a police constable in Uttarakhand

A police constable from Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF), Mr. Anant Yadav was shot dead by illegal wildlife traders during an enforcement operation last night to apprehend wildlife criminals at Uttarkashi district. Last month an STF team had successful in arresting an accused with 5 tiger skins and 125 kg tiger bones in Haridwar district.

Rising cases of dolphin and turtle deaths spark concern

In the last few of weeks, at least six carcasses of dolphins were washed ashore in different places between Kozhikode and Kasaragod in Kerala. Similar incidents were reported from other parts of the country too, including Mumbai and Chennai. Experts who keenly study marine life are of the opinion that these are indications of a serious threat to marine life.
