3 poachers including a citizen of Nepal were convicted by a court in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand for killing 2 Himalayan Tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus) in December last year. During the investigation forest officials were recovered the meat and 2 country-made guns from accused. All three accused were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and ₹10,000 fine each.

Murder of constable and leopard skin seizure - main accused acquitted
In April 2016 during a raid in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, a constable of Special Task Force of police was shot dead by illegal wildlife traders and police managed to seize a leopard skin and deer antlers. A case has registered against four persons, during the trial 3 accused were used the option of plea bargaining and court sentenced them to 1 year and 8 months imprisonment. Trial against main accused was concluded and Sessions Court had acquitted him.

Seizure of Molluscs, accused convicted in Haridwar
In August 2009 district police of Haridwar raided a shop and seized 123 Molluscs including 14 pieces of Cassis cornuta which are listed under Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act. A case has registered against shopkeeper, now a court in Haridwar district had convicted the accused and sentenced him to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and ₹10,000 fine.

Three people convicted and sentenced to 5 years in leopard skins smuggling
In June 2001, Uttarakhand forest department had seized 6 leopard skins at Haridwar district and a case was registered against 5 persons. During the search of home at one of the accused, leg of barking deer, sambar antlers, porcupine quills and horns of Himalayan Tahr were also recovered. After the trial a court in Haridwar was convicted three persons and sentenced them to 5 years rigorous imprisonment and ₹15,000 fine each. The other two were acquitted.

3 years imprisonment for smuggling of owl, leopard and Musk deer body parts
In September last year, Uttarakhand Forest department arrested two persons with 1 owl and body parts of leopard and musk deer in Rudraprayag district. After the trial CJM Rudraprayag had convicted one of the accused and sentenced him to three years imprisonment and ₹10,000 fine. Case against other accused is pending.

Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand had convicted four people whom were arrested by forest department with a skin each of leopard and leopard cat at Rudraprayag in January 2017. All four accused were sentenced to five years imprisonment and ₹ 10,000 fine each.

On November 2010 in a joint operation of Uttarakhand police and forest department, arrested two persons of Bageshwar with two musk pods at Haldwani in Nainital district. In two instances tiger skins seized in Nepal were originated from India
In two case studies presented by Government of India to CITES Secretariat shows that one of the tiger skin seized in Nepal on January 2013 was originated from Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh and tiger skin seized in December 2015 at Sunsari, Nepal was originated from Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand.

Wildlife trader got bail from Uttarakhand High Court
An illegal wildlife trader from Delhi who was convicted in a case of tiger skin and bones seizure registered at Ramnagar division in January 2009 managed to procure bail from Uttarakhand High Court during the pendency of criminal revision. Prior to this his conviction was upheld by Sessions court in August 2017.
In High Court counsel for the convict contended that the "Courts below erred in awarding the punishment as the role assigned to the revisionist was as simple as he was the purchaser of the alleged skin, which was never sent for FSL. It is contended that the revisionist could not be punished as same is barred by Section 30 and 26 of the Evidence Act. It is further contented the revisionist was on bail during trial as well as during pendency of appeal and he has never misused the bail granted to him."

In May 2000 district police of Haridwar, Uttarakhand arrested a person of neighboring Bijnore district with a leopard skin, after a long trial Chief Judicial Magistrate had found him guilty and sentenced the convict to 4 years rigorous imprisonment and ₹20,000 fine on last week.

Three years imprisonment for a person caught with leopard skins in Uttarakhand
In June 2013 Uttarakhand police had arrested a person with two leopard skins in Pithoragarh. Judicial Magistrate of Pithoragarh is now convicted the accused in this case for violating section 39 of Wildlife Protection Act and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment and ₹ 10,000 fine.
