Engine drivers honoured for save the elephant

North East Frontier Railway was awarded two engine drivers for exceptional devotion towards duty for save the elephant. Shri Sujit Prasad (Loco Pilot) and Shri Khageshwar Singh (Sr Asst Loco Pilot) based at Alipurduar Jn while o­n duty o­n a goods train suddenly observed a big elephant o­n railway track at KM 29/4-5 between Sevok and Gulma station o­n 23.10.2017. They immediately stopped the train by applying emergency brake thereby saved the elephant and a probable derailment. In recognition of their service and devotion towards duty Addl. General Manager N.F.Railway awarded them with “Man of the month October – 2017” certificate along-with a cash award of Rs. 5,000/- each.

Elephant dies after being hit by goods train in Odisha

A female elephant aged about four years was killed yesterday evening after being hit by a goods train near Pattasahi railway station under K. Balang police limits in Odisha’s Sundergarh district.

5 elephants killed in train accident, electrocution and poaching on last weekend

Carcass of a male elephant with tusks removed was found in Rairangpur forest division of Odisha on 21 November 2015.

A wild elephant chased by a group of villagers was run over by a train near Madarihat, Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on 22 November 2015.

Two female elephants died in Sonepur district of Odisha when some miscreants were passed electricity in solar fence on 22 November 2015.

In an another incident a male elephant was electrocuted when came into contact with an illegal electric fence erected around a farm in Sathyamangalam tiger reserve of Tamil Nadu on 21 November 2015.

Tiger killed in Train accident at Valmiki Tiger Reserve

One tigress (Panthera tigris) was found dead near Bagaha-Chitauni railway tracks of East Central Railway on 10 September 2015. Forest officials claimed that the tiger was killed after being hit by a train under Madanpur range of division-II of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), Bihar around 290km northwest of Patna. Around 6km of the section of the railway tracks passes through Madanpur range, which falls in the western part of the VTR. The section was made operational in 1992 and more than a dozen passenger and goods trains pass through the stretch daily.

Elephant and leopard killed in Train and road accidents

An adult male elephant was killed when a speeding passenger train hit the animal while it was crossing tracks in between Madarihat and Hasimara stations in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on 7 May 2015.

Tiger killed in train accident

A tigress was killed after it was hit by a speeding train at Ramnagar in Nainital district in the wee hours today. The body of an adult tigress with its head badly crushed was recovered from the tracks near Hempur army depot at Ramnagar in Nainital district.

Lions, leopard killed in Train and Road accidents

Two lionesses, one of them pregnant with three fetuses were killed in train accident at Amreli district of Gujarat on 22 January 2014. In an another case a leopard was killed in road accident on NH-37, Jorhat district of Assam.
