Three Indians convicted in Nepal for Chimpanzee smuggling

Police had on 18 October 2017 rescued two chimpanzees, eight monkeys, seven golden pheasants, two ringneck pheasants, 38 pigeons and 65 parrots that were smuggled into Kathmandu through Tribhuvan International Airport. The animals were to reach India via Kathmandu. Police had filed a case in the court in December 2017 against all 20 accused. Court had convicted and sentenced 3 Indian nationals and a Pakistani national to 5 years imprisonment and a Nepali citizen to two-and-a-half years jail.

In two instances tiger skins seized in Nepal were originated from India

In two case studies presented by Government of India to CITES Secretariat shows that one of the tiger skin seized in Nepal on January 2013 was originated from Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh and tiger skin seized in December 2015 at Sunsari, Nepal was originated from Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand.

Three Indian nationals arrested in Nepal with Chimpanzees

Citizens of India, Nepal and Pakistan were arrested last week in Kathmandu by CIB of Nepal Police with 2 Chimpanzees and other animals, chimps were suspected to be brought from Nigeria.

Member of international wildlife crime syndicate arrested from Delhi

Special Task Force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh forest department arrested an alleged member of international poaching syndicate from Delhi on 30 October 2015. Accused Jaiy Tamang, 42, a resident of Nepal, was arrested from Delhi's Majnu ka Tila area for trading in pangolins scales and tiger skins.

Tiger and leopard skins brought from India seized in Nepal

Tiger skin and bones seized in Nepal

Nepal Police arrested three persons, including an Indian national, in possession of endangered tiger’s skin and bones from Punarbas Municipality-8 in Kanchanpur district on 28 February 2015. Police nabbed the suspects while they were entering into Nepal with the animal parts they had brought from Sampurna Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. This is the third major haul of smuggled parts of endangered tigers in the district in the past two months.

One more Indian arrested in Nepal with tiger skin and bones

Nepal Police arrested a resident of Lakhimpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with a skin and around 19 kg bones of tiger from Belauri-1 in the Kanchanpur district on 19 January 2015 night. During the police interrogation, the Indian national informed that the seized parts were of a tiger that was poached in Pilibhit area in Uttar Pradesh. Last week also police seized an Indian with a hide and 18 kg bones of tiger from Dodhara, Kanchanpur that was also poached in Pilibhit.

Red sanders seized in Maharashtra and Nepal

The hill districts of the Far-Western Development Region of Nepal have become a major transit point for smuggling wildlife body parts from India to China via Nepal. Smugglers are smuggling large amounts of wildlife body parts from Darchula district alone.

Nepali national convicted for leopard poaching

CJM court of Almora, Uttarakhand had convicted a Nepali national and sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment and Rupees 10,000 fine for killing a leopard and later skinned the animal on February this year.
