Person caught with 1001 mongoose hair brushes convicted

A trial court in Delhi has convicted a person who was arrested by wildlife officials with 1001 paint brushes made from the hairs of grey mongoose (Herpestes edwardsii) in July 2009.

Court held that the prosecution has proved its   case   beyond   reasonable   doubt   against   the   accused   that  he   was apprehended with the 1001 brushes derived from Mongoose hairs without any licence or authority. The species of Mongoose are specified in Schedule­II of Wild Life (Protection) Act and trade/business in the said 'animal articles' are banned under the Act w.e.f. 30.09.02. Accordingly, accused is held guilty and is convicted for the offence u/s 49 & 49(B)(1) of the Act, punishable u/s 51 of the Act. 

Three years imprisonment for Mongoose killer

CJM court in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh had found guilty on a person who had killed two mongoose in November 2012 and sentenced him to three years imprisonment and Rs. 10,000 fine.

Mongoose hair seized in Indo-Nepal border

In a joint operation Sashastra Seema Bal and Uttar Pradesh Forest department seized mongoose hair and hairs of other wild animal near Nepal border in Bahraich district on 3 December 2013.

Mongoose hair brush dealer convicted in Delhi

In a case detected by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and Delhi Wildlife Department on December 2007, a person who was dealing in mongoose hair paint brushes was found guilty and convicted by trail court on 9 May 2013. Court had sentenced the accused to undergo simple imprisonment for the period already undergone by him during the course of trial along with a fine of Rs. 10,000.

Mongoose hair brush manufacturer convicted in Delhi

A person who was found to be manufacturing mongoose hair paint brushes and arrested with 10.5 kgs of mongoose hairs,1.2 kgs of mongoose hairs fitted in metal nipples besides 2025 brushes on August 2004 in Delhi was found guilty and convicted by trial court on 4 May 2013.

Mongoose hair brush dealer convicted in Delhi

In a case registered by Delhi police on February 2008, a person was convicted by trial court on 8th April for illegally trading 174 paint brushes made of mongoose hair.

Three leopards, wild boar, mongoose electrocuted in Maharashtra

Three leopards, a wild boar and a mongoose were electrocuted when in contact with a transmission pole that accidentally came in contact with live electric wire it was supporting near Mansinghdeo wildlife sanctuary on 20 May 2012.

156 Mongoose hair brushes seized in Agra

Uttar Pradesh forest department officials raided a shop in Agra and seized 156 paint brushes made of mongoose hair. Mongoose is a protected species under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
