One more elephant electrocuted in Orissa

One tusker electrocuted at Angul district, Orissa yesterday after it came in contact with a live wire laid by some people near Para village under Durgapur range of Angul forest division. 

Red sanders seized at Kochi, Kerala

DRI officials were seized Red sanders amounting to Rs. 1.37 crores at Vallarpadam Container Terminal, Kochi, Kerala on 27th October. Two persons were arrested in this connection. Red sanders is listed in Appendix II of CITES and it's export is regulated by export-import policy of India. 31 sharks seized by Indian Coast Guard

31 spinner sharks protected under Wildlife Protection Act were seized and four fishermen were arrested by Coast Guard on 23rd October off Tamil Nadu coast.

9 foxes and 2 wild boars killed by poachers

Poachers were killed nine foxes and two wild boars at near Kadur, Chickmagalur district of Karnataka on 22nd October. 5 persons were arrested and they were used crude explosives to kill the animals.

Rhino horn seized in Assam

Police had claimed that one rhino horn had seized at Morigaon district of Assam on 16th October and two persons were arrested.  It is not yet clear that the seized horn is real or fake.

Leopard skin seized in Andhra Pradesh

Hindu newspaper had reported a seizure of a tiger skin at Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh on 17th October.   In reality a leopard skin had seized not a tiger skin as reported by newspaper.  

10 poachers were arrested in Madhya Pradesh

144kg pangolin scales seized in Assam

Customs officials were arrested two persons with 144 kg of pangolin scales and Myanmarese currencies at Silchar, Cachar district of Assam on the night of 21st October. Its believed that accused were planning to smuggle the goods to Myanmar via the border of Mizoram.

Police were arrested two persons with a leopard skin at Surguja district of Chhattisgarh on 19th October.

Leopard poisoned in Nashik district

A leopard was found with white froth oozing out from mouth at Nashik district of Maharashtra on 18th October. It's a case of suspected poisoning.

Elephant calf electrocuted in West Bengal

Five year old elephant electrocuted in West Midnapore district on 18th October when in touch with a live wire laid by a farmer.

Elephant killed in Chamrajnagar district

One elephant was found dead near the farm at under Gundlupet police station area of Chamrajnagar district, Karnataka on 18th October. It's not yet clear animal was poisoned or electrocuted. A case under wildlife protection act has registered.

Seven poachers arrested for tiger killing in Uttarakhand

Forest department arrested seven poachers whom were killed a tiger for skin and bones on 14th October at Sharda Range of Haldwani forest division. Tiger bones which couldn't find earlier were also recovered. The arrested includes two members of notorious tiger poaching  gang based in Haryana and their local supporters.

Poachers killed a Rhinoceros in Assam

Poachers killed a rhino at Pobitora wildlife sanctuary, Assam on 13th October evening and took away the horn. Post-mortem couldn't reveal how the animal was killed, there were no bullet injuries on the body.

10 people died after consuming wild boar meat

Ten people were died and number of people were hospitalized due to trichinosis after consuming wild boar meat on last week at Pauri district of Uttarakhand.

Two elephants were electrocuted in a fenced farm at Amarambalam, Nilambur South forest division of Kerala on 15th October. It is suspected that farm owners were passed the high voltage electricity through solar fence that caused the death of the elephants.

Controversy on bison death

A bison was found dead on the road side of NH-4 at Molem, Goa on 15th October. Forest department says animal might have killed in road accident but wildlife activists version is that animal may have shot dead by poachers.

Poachers killed a tiger in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand forest department patrolling team found a fresh tiger skin, meat and poaching tools on 14th October at forests of Sharda Range. It's believed that poachers were run away after seeing the patrolling team. Tiger bones were not yet recovered.

Three wild boars electrocuted by poachers

Three wild boars were electrocuted by poachers for bush meat on 28th September at Nagbhid tehsil of Chandrapur district. Forest department arrested three persons for poaching of wild boars.

Assam Rifles seized pangolin scales

Assam Rifles seized 21kg of pangolin scales and other drugs at Chandel district of Manipur on 4th October. One local person was arrested in this connection.

On 2nd October a leopard was found dead in a wire trap set by poachers at Nilgiris north Division, Tamil Nadu.

3 leopard skins, bear gall bladder and Musk pod seized

On 29th September 2011 in two different cases Uttarakhand police seized 3 leopard skins, 1 gall bladder of Himalayan black bear, 1 musk pod, Himalayan herbs and Indian currencies. 3 persons were arrested from Dehradun and Uttar Kashi district.

4 shahtoosh shawls seized at Delhi International Airport

Four shahtoosh shawls made on wool of Tibetan antelope were seized at Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi on 28th September 2011. A resident of Srinagar was arrested when he arrived from Kazakhstan.

Sloth bear shot dead by police in Chhattisgarh

Police shot dead a sloth bear when it attacked the villagers and killed a person at Koriya forest division, Chhattisgarh on 1st October.

Leopard poisoned in Betul, Madhya Pradesh

A leopard was poisoned and it's body found in a well at Bakud village of Betul district Madhya Pradesh on 1st October. 2 persons were arrested in this connection.

Live black buck seized in Delhi

A live black buck brought from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh seized in Delhi on 3rd October by Delhi police. 4 persons were arrested.

Birds seized in Haridwar and Saharanpur

40 birds mainly munias were seized in Haridwar by forest department on 3rd October with the assistance of NGOs. As a follow-up of this case a raid was conducted at Saharanpur and one person was arrested with parakeets.
