Conviction against wildlife criminals upheld in Haryana

In June 2010 forest officials of Haryana were arrested 3 people with 13 yellow monitor lizards in Kaithal district. Trial court had convicted the accused and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and fine of ₹10,000 each. The appeal filed by convicts were now rejected by Additional Sessions Judge, Kurukshetra and held that the prosecution has been duly proved the fact that appellants-accused were found in possession of 13 yellow monitor lizards and thereby committed offence under Section 39(a) of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, punishable under Section 51 of the Act.

Monitor lizards under threat in Andhra Pradesh

Alleged medicinal values linked to Varanus is posing a threat to its survival in Andhra Pradesh. The demand for the Varanus is high at the Machilipatnam fish market in Krishna district.

Three persons arrested with Agra Monitor Lizards convicted

Three persons arrested with 57 live Agra Monitor Lizards in Delhi on January 2004 were found guilty by trial court and and are convicted for the offence u/s 9/49/49(B)(1) of Wild Life (Protection) Act.

Accused convicted for Illegal possession of Agra monitor lizards

A person found with possession of 40 live Agra Monitor Lizards in January 2010 in Delhi was recently been convicted by trial court. Court found that accused was intending to sell the same and was in custody of prohibited animal without any licence or permit in contravention of Section 9, 44, 49 and 49B(1) of Wild Life (Protection) Act.
