Leopard killed in road accident on NH-72

On 13 November 2013, a leopard was killed in road accident on NH-72, Dehradun. In an another incident a sambar was also killed in road accident at Shyampur Range, Haridwar.

3 bears and 2 leopards shot dead by officials in Kashmir

To minimize the human-animal conflict, trigger happy officials were shot dead three Himalayan black bears and two leopards in Kashmir on last two weeks. Bears were killed on 31st October, 4th and 10th November and leopards on 5th and 9th November.

Poachers electrocuted a leopard in Madhya Pradesh

Two poachers were arrested in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh for electrocuting a leopard on three days back.

One more tiger killed, this time in Uttar Pradesh

In a joint operation of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh forest departments five tiger poachers were arrested and they led the investigation team to Mahof range in Pilibhit forest division in Uttar Pradesh where tigress flesh and lathis used for kill the animal were recovered. One of the accused arrested is also wanted in tiger poaching case of Melghat tiger reserve in Maharashtra.

Poachers targeting national parks

The arrest of four poachers hailing from Orissa in the Palar range on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border and one from Bandipur National Park recently has put the Forest Department and wildlife activists on alert. Snare traps, which the poachers planned to lay in the dense jungle to trap the big cats, were seized from them. Forest officials, acting on a tip, seized salt and turmeric powder from the poachers. These items would be used to preserve the skin of the animals after poaching.

Chinese couriers detained with red sanders at Cochin airport

Three Chinese nationals were detained with 110 kg of red sanders, US$ 17,000, Chinese Yuan 26,000 and Rs.6 lakh at the Cochin international airport on 3 November 2013 morning.

Rhinos killed in Kaziranga and Orang
