Poachers shot dead a man for protecting chinkaras in Jodhpur

A 25-year-old youth of Bishnoi community lost his life protecting chinkaras (Indian Gazelle) from poachers in Jodhpur district on 29 January 2014. History is replete with the sacrifices of Bishnois for the cause of trees and wildlife. In 1730, 363 Bishnoi men, women and children gave their lives to protect trees from cutting by the king's men in Khejarli village in Jodhpur by hugging to them.

Poachers killed third elephant in Sambalpur

Another decomposed carcass of a tusker with bullet injuries was found in Sambalpur district of Odisha on 27 January 2014. Prior to this incident poachers had killed two male elephants few days back, this has brought to the fore increasing activities of poachers in the area and involvement of ivory mafia.

Three years jail term for bird poachers
